DURABLE AND ECONOMICAL

Unlike in a traditional roofing system where the membrane is attached to the substrate by adhesive or plates and screws, in a waterproofing system you are able to loosely lay the Sarnafil G 476 membrane down without any attachment due to the fact that the membrane is the bottom layer in the system and will have things like pavers or soil on top to keep it down.  The Sarnafil G 476’s seams are also hot-air welded for maximum water tightness.

Below are some of the reasons why a loose-laid waterproofing system might be the best fit for your project.

Concrete Slab

A concrete slab is a common structural element of modern buildings, consisting of a flat, horizontal surface made of cast concrete that can be used in areas such as the floor or the roof.

Concrete Pavers

Concrete pavers are made in a factory rather than poured on site.  Concrete pavers are a mixture of concrete and some type of coloring agent poured into a mold of some shape and allowed to set.

Adjustable Paver Pedestal

Paver pedestals go under the paver and can be adjusted up or down to make your plaza deck level.  Pedestals are designed to hold the weight of the paver as well as foot or vehicle traffic.

LOOSE LAID SYSTEM ADVANTAGES
  • Proven Sarnafil membrane
  • Lightweight and easy to install
  • A heavy duty polypropylene geotextile leveling layer minimizes expensive surface preparation
  • Can be installed over damp or irregular surfaces in any temperature
  • The bright orange Sarnafil G 476 membrane makes it easy to identify and inspect to maintain high levels of quality assurance and control during construction
  • Watertight with hot-air welded seam overlaps
  • Root and decay resistant membrane
  • Membrane designed for extreme conditions such as low alkaline levels, fungi, bacterial organisms, constant dampness and ponding water
  • Factory-manufactured sheet for quality control

INNOVATION, PERFORMANCE AND AESTHETICS

Unlike mechanically-attached roofing systems where the membrane is secured to the system using fasteners, adhered roofing systems secure the membrane to the system using adhesive.  The Sarnafil Self-Adhered System utilizes the Sarnafil G 410 SA membrane which has a pressure sensitive adhesive layer added to the back during production.  This innovative membrane provides all of the benefits of Sika's Sarnafil adhered roofing systems without the hassle and mess of liquid adhesives.  Improve your installation productivity and eliminate adhesive fumes and VOC’s from your next project!

Below are some of the reasons why a Sarnafil Self-Adhered System might be the best fit for your project.

SELF-ADHERED SYSTEM BENEFITS:
  • No odor/VOC free
  • Perfect for food and beverage production
  • Ideal for schools, hospitals, and sensitive occupant project
  • Quick and easy installation
  • Can be installed in temperatures as low as 20F
  • Cost competitive system
  • Contour to uniquely shaped roofs
  • Proven performance Sarnafil membrane
  • For both low and steep slope applications
  • Aesthetically pleasing
  • Eliminates sheet flutter and “billowing”
  • Best option for “non-nailable” substrates
  • No fastener penetration in the membrane

LightGUARD®/HeavyGUARD®

When the ultimate protection of your Sika Sarnafil roof membrane is required, look no further than the LightGUARD or HeavyGUARD products.  Perfect for protecting the membrane from severe weather such as hail, LightGUARD/HeavyGUARD is a composite modified concrete top layer bonded to extruded polystyrene insulation.  The LightGUARD/HeavyGUARD board is installed directly on the separator sheet over the completed Sika Sarnafil roof system making the membrane completely protected from hail or roof top traffic.  Both LightGUARD and HeavyGUARD come with a 2”-3” thick polystyrene insulation board.  LightGUARD then has a 3/8” thick composite concrete layer while HeavyGUARD has a 15/16” thick composite concrete layer.

Below are some of the reasons why the LightGUARD or HeavyGUARD might be the best fit for your project.

Lightguard/Heavyguard Insulation

Lightguard/Heavyguard panels provide both insulation and heavyweight ballast all in one. Panels are composed of 2 or 3 inches of Dow Styrofoam with a 3/8” to 15/16” latex-modified concrete topping on a 2’x4′ tongue-and-groove panel.

LightGUARD/HeavyGUARD ADVANTAGES:
  • Roof membrane protection
  • Increased impact resistance
  • Ideal for hail and excessive roof top traffic
  • Interlocking boards
  • Available in a red, gray, green, and tan
  • UL listed 1256, 790

INNOVATIVE RE-COVER PERFORMANCE

Have an old or just failing waterproofing system and not sure what options you have now that you need a new one?  Look no further than Sika Sarnafil’s Grid System.  This system was designed for renovation projects where the substrate is contaminated or removal of the existing waterproofing is not practical, Sika offers the grid system. It combines all of the advantages of a loose-laid Sarnafil membrane with the added security of adhered membrane grid strips.

The adhered grid strips act as a sub-membrane waterstop to compartmentalize the waterproofed areas and limit overburden removal if a problem develops. As the name implies, the area to be waterproofed is marked out in a grid pattern, with each section becoming its own individual containment field.  Should a leak occur in the future, the containment grid isolates the water, eliminating any potential spread from one section to another.  The grid system can be installed economically over existing waterproofing with minimal deck preparation and removal of the existing waterproofing system.

Below are some of the reasons why a self-adhered waterproofing system might be the best fit for your project.

PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENTS

Plaza decks are located at or above grade level. They are public areas accessible to pedestrians and in some cases vehicles. Covered by concrete, pavers or in some cases vegetation, they may protect valuable commercial or office space, storage or mechanical areas, or parking.  Plaza decks are waterproofed to protect the structure, their occupants and the property beneath them from water and moisture penetration.

Plaza decks require special attention since they may hold water for a period of time after precipitation, and the waterproofing system is buried under the overburden making repairs challenging and costly.

Choosing the right waterproofing system is one of the most important decisions you will make on your project.  Below are a few key benefits to a plaza deck protected by a Sarnafil waterproofing system.

DO I NEED TO WATERPROOF A PLAZA DECK?

If your building is like most, it has critical areas inside the building that must be protected from the damaging effects of water, moisture or other contaminants. If these areas are covered with overburden such as earth, landscaping and pavers, it can be a challenge to remove the overburden and determine the cause should a leak occur. As a result, one of the most important decisions you have to make is the waterproofing system.

Without proper waterproofing it is a question of when, not if, water infiltrates the structure. Structures move and settle with time. Structural movements or deficiencies cause cracks and openings in the structure. The cracks and openings create a pathway for water and moisture to enter the building. Water infiltration not only affects the usage and value of a building, but also has the potential to propagate mold and fungus growth. A building owner can be faced with future repairs and mitigation actions that could cost thousands. Because of this, it is important to not only waterproof your building, but to choose a waterproofing manufacturer whose performance history speaks for itself.
